Hallo! I am not actually German however I have lived there. That is besides the point. The point is this blog is about football and unfortunately when I think of football, I often think of...The Germans (don't mention the war).
This will make more sense when I reveal that I am English. The relationship between Germany and England (let's keep this on a football level only. Don't mention the war) is a tense and bitter one. For many an Englishman, one of the best moments in recent history was in 2001. It was the highlight of a young man named Owens career, and a highlight in English victories over the Germans (don't mention...). As a Villa fan I understand what a 5-1 victory over a bitter rival means after whooping Small Heath with this very score in 2008 and keeping them deep in a relegation battle. The feeling, the joy, the elation - it is simply glorious. It buys you bragging rights and allows you to walk around like a pompous twat for at least a week.
This can come to a halt (Halt!) however. As they say the higher you climb, the harder you fall. England, the best team in the world (well 4th according to latest fifa rankings. Sorry about the World Cup, Sepp!? Or are you just trying to make us look even worse when we bomb in Euro 2012. Of course, that is assuming we qualify. In a group including Wales, Montenegro, Bulgaria and Switzerland. I mean really!) but yes...England, the 4th best team in t'world....This is hard. *Takes a deep breath, pushes ego to one side and pumps up chest* We lost 4-1 to Germany last year in the World Cup. Goodbye bragging rights.
But hey, we won the war right?
